Happy Eid al-Fitr to Muslims all over the world
Eid al-Fitr is announced at the end of Ramadan and through sighting the crescent moon. The new moon must be sighted with the eye in order to declare the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal month. Eid al-Fitr is sacred to all Muslims worldwide, and it can be said that it is one of the most important holidays celebrated in Muslim countries. Fasting is forbidden on this great day, and that is why some people who are fully aware of this matter and take responsibility for it, so that they can announce the exact day for Eid al-Fitr, and when they are sure of seeing the moon, they announce it to Muslims. Since the sighting of the moon depends on the geographical location of each country, it is announced one day earlier or later in other countries. In many Muslim countries, this day is declared an official holiday because of its importance. In every Muslim country, Muslims celebrate this day depending on their customs and traditions. But praying Eid al-Fitr is a common culture among all Muslims on this holy day, which is performed in congregation and publicly.
Fitr means returning to the original nature and nature of humanity. Eid al-Fitr is a celebration of worship and Obedience to God’s commands and requests, and in return for this worship, God has given Muslims a valuable reward and has promised paradise to humans. Muslims celebrate Eid al-Fitr, since they have cleaned their sins and gotten rid of evil thoughts. This celebration is for the forgiveness of sins. But Muslims must remember that evil thoughts always follow the Faith of humans, and they must strive to overcome these thoughts and strengthen their beliefs during the month of Ramadan by drawing closer to God.
After a month of fasting, Muslims continue their daily lives with a renewed spirit and stronger faith with self-purification, self-improvement, and getting closer to God Almighty.
Muslims generally do various things on this great day, such as praying in congregation, distributing sweets and giving chocolates.
Eid al-Fitr is a social day for Muslims worldwide. Every year, they gather together and pray the Eid al-Fitr prayer in congregation to praise their service to God and to celebrate that they are her servants. Praying collectively shows the unity and integrity of Muslims in praising God all over the world. The Eid al-Fitr prayer is performed in two parts, and verses similar to those recited in the morning prayer are recited. Praise and adoration that is only worthy of God and brings peace to the soul and spirit. On days of Ramadan, when even breathing is considered a reward for those who fast, praying Eid prayers will have greater virtue.
Spreading sweets and chocolates on this great day is another custom that Muslims do. Muslims prepare themselves to celebrate on this day. You can see the celebration for the end of Ramadan on the streets and alleys of the city, and colorful lights are lit everywhere in the city. Sweets, chocolates, and syrups are spread among the people. Spreading dates and figs on these days is very popular because both of them are heavenly fruits and have many properties and benefits for the health of the body, and can compensate for physical weakness. Muslims express gratitude for this service and celebrate the service of God with all the glory. Fasting is not permitted on this sacred day and is forbidden. On the day of Eid al-Fitr, after a month of fasting, patience, and abstaining from eating and drinking, all Muslims are guests of God, and God has forbidden to everyone to eat or drink on this day. God advises balance in religion. Fasting on all days of the year may not match one’s physical strength, and the conflict between the soul and the body may cause discomfort and eventually discourage the person from worship.
It is very important for Muslims to wear new and clean clothes on this great day because Eid al-Fitr is a very special day for all Muslims and all Muslims are guests of God and they want to be seen perfect in front of God on this special day and it does not matter if you have succeeded in fasting or for some reason this was not possible for you.
Another obligation that must be fulfilled on Eid al-Fitr is the payment of fitrah. The amount of fitrah is equivalent to 3 kilograms of daily food such as rice, corn, raisins, dates or wheat. One of the philosophies of fasting is to be aware of the condition of the needy and deprived.
At the end of Ramadan, each of the specified items is provided to the needy by those who are fully aware of these matters as Fitrah. Also, the cash equivalent of each of these food items can be given to the needy. And this is the religious duty of every Muslim who is mature, sane, and aware and is not poor. Also, if the person is the head of the household, this duty is on him to pay the Fitrah related to all those under his care. Fitrah is given to all those who have financial problems and cannot afford to pay their living expenses. Debtors who are unable to pay their debts can be given Fitrah. Likewise, all works that benefit Muslims, such as building mosques, schools, hospitals, and similar activities, can be given.
God has made it obligatory for every Muslim to pay fitrah, but if that person is in need, it is not obligatory for her/him to pay fitrah.
Fasting is obligatory upon every Muslim, but if a person is unable to fast for any reason, whether physical or mental problems, they have to pay their fitrah if they have the financial means and also try to participate in the prayer on the day of Fitr.
Ramadan month is an opportunity to increase our patience and tolerance and keep ourselves away from the desires of the flesh because God has promised Muslims Paradise. When humans are born, they are pure and free from any mistakes and sins. God has provided this opportunity this month to be patient and endure any temptation that Satan gives to humans. The philosophy of Ramadan may seem to be just about not eating and drinking, but behind all this is something more than not eating and drinking. Whenever you go to God and ask for forgiveness for your sins and mistakes you have committed, God accepts you and opens the doors of His mercy to you.
